American Greatness?

There is no denying it: America was the greatest country in the world. We were blessed with unparalleled freedoms and boundless prosperity that for generations inspired an innovative and industrious people.  America was truly exceptional!

“Sure I wave the American flag.  Do you know a better flag to wave?   Sure I love my country with all her faults.   I’m not ashamed of her, never have been, never will be.” — John Wayne

This is aptly described in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom (HBO)  which revolves around an old school news anchor whose rant about the decline of America goes viral. Please watch the attached video for the full rhetoric…

Chaos in Iraq!

The sudden collapse of Iraqi forces in the face of lightly armed insurgents has catalyzed an emotional debate within the U.S. military about a war that, just a few years ago, seemed on the brink of going down in history as a success. In an echo of the post-Vietnam era, some military officers believe the war could and should have been won.

They blame civilian leaders — chief among them President Obama — for failing to press harder for a political agreement that would have allowed the military to remain on the ground long enough to secure victory….

Obama Scandals Guidebook

There is no hard and fast rule defining scandals. Scandal is defined as “loss of or damage to reputation caused by actual or apparent violation of morality or propriety.”

In politics scandal should be kept separate from ‘controversy,’ (which implies two differing points of view) and ‘unpopularity.’ Many decisions are controversial, many decisions are unpopular—that alone does not make them scandals. A good rule of thumb is whether or not an action is, or appears to be, illegal….

“Gunwalking”, or “letting guns walk”, was a tactic of the Arizona Field Office of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which ran a series of sting operations between 2006  and 2011 in the Tucson and Phoenix area where the ATF “purposely allowed licensed firearms dealers to sell weapons to illegal straw buyers, hoping to track the guns to Mexican drug cartel leaders and arrest them.”

In 2013, the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) revealed that it had selected political groups applying for tax-exempt status for closer scrutiny based on their names or political themes.

This led to wide condemnation of the agency and triggered several investigations, including a Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal probe ordered by United States Attorney General Eric Holder.

Immigration Crisis

A constant refrain from those who insist on immigration reform – read: amnesty – rather than closing the border as a first step toward dealing with the immigration issue is that the border cannot be closed. That’s nonsense.

The border can be closed, but both parties have a seeming interest in keeping it open. Democrats want the border open to usher in millions of people, most of them under-educated and likely to depend at least in part on government, who will presumably vote for bigger government once they are given citizenship.

The American Soldier

The American Soldier doesn’t want your sympathy, they want your Respect, the Respect they deserve for doing the job you wouldn’t do, the job that guarantees your right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, and your families as well.

The Obama White House has shown nothing but contempt for our military and routinely fails to acknowledge the uncommon skills and service, the choices each one of them has made and the ones still ahead, for the challenge of defending not only our freedoms but those barely stirring half a world away, the American soldier was TIME’s Person of the Year for 2003.

U.S. soldiers are, for starters, all volunteers, in contrast to most nations, which conscript those who serve in their armed forces. Ours are serving in 146 countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. 1.4 million men and women on active duty make up the most diverse military in our history.  They come in all sizes and shapes, different ages, different races, and in a matter of weeks, they become part of a unit, a team, something very special.
